What’s the role and service?

In your role as a Project Worker, you will work directly with families and closely with other agencies including Tusla social workers and schools in the local community to provide intensive family support.

This work includes:

  • Assessing the needs of children and their families using the Barnardos Assessment Framework
  • Individual work with children to address a variety of identified needs
  • Targeted group work with children
  • Parent and child sessions / family work
  • Crises intervention
  • Practical family support around routines, housing, budgeting, attending appointments
  • Partnership with Parents, (PwP) - home based one to one programme
  • Inter-agency work - including attendance at case conferences /court /core group meetings

What will my day to day look like?

  • You will access the needs of the children and the families engaging with the project.
  • Working directly with children, young people, carers, and families through a range of approaches—including individual, group, family, centre-based, and outreach work—providing key working support where appropriate and advocating on their behalf to meet identified needs.
  • Liaising effectively with families and other statutory, community and voluntary bodies and to attend and contribute to reviews and case conferences as required.
  • Identifying and documenting to the line manager any unmet needs of children/young people/carers/ families within the service and participating in the advocacy work of the agency.
  • You will be engaging with the community and working in partnership with agencies and families

What experience do I need? 

  • You will need a minimum of two years experience comprising of at least 1-year post-qualification experience, and up to 1-year of equivalent prior qualification experience of working with vulnerable children and families may be considered.
  • Experience of working in partnership with families and carers.
  • Experience of planning, implementing and reviewing programmes with children and/or families.

Do I need a qualification?

Yes, you will need a recognised third level practice qualification[1] (minimum Level 7 on the QQI) in one of the following: Early Childhood Care and Education / Social Care/ Education/ Social Work /Youth Work; Or related discipline (e.g. Nursing, Psychology, Early Years Education).
