Hospice and Healthcare Volunteer to Career
Role location: Saint Michael’s Hospice, Crimple House, Harrogate
This role works across our family of services: Herriot Hospice Homecare, Just ‘B’ and Saint Michael’s Hospice
Application forms to be received by 23.59hrs, 12th February 2025
Our Volunteer to Career program gives you first hand insights into working within a hospice for anyone wishing to explore the possibility of a future role in healthcare. While exploring if the sector is for you, you’ll help our independent charity provide vital support to people living with terminal illness and bereavement.
We are looking for someone who is caring and empathetic, has good communication skills, is emotionally mature and can commit to 4hrs of volunteer time one day per week (between Monday- Friday) for 16 weeks.
You will be working alongside our clinical teams to create a warm and welcoming environment for our patients. Within the scope of your specialist training, you’ll make a difference to patients by supporting them with their individual needs.
Getting started:
- We will ask you to complete a role-specific volunteer application form.
- If you’re successful in your application, we will invite you to an initial interview.
- Once you’ve completed your training programme, we’ll give you the opportunity to reflect on your experience and talk through what went well and any areas for improvement. If you would benefit for additional training, we can arrange their following your initial programme.
- We will ask you to complete our safeguarding and information governance training via our online training platform, ‘WeLearn’.
- You will also gain skills from completing our standard training courses, which are designed for all volunteers across our organisation.
- We will complete a DBS check before you begin volunteering with us.
Support for you:
Herriot Hospice Homecare, Just ‘B’ and Saint Michael’s Hospice are a family of services with our values at the heart of all we do. - For more details, please see a copy of the volunteer description at the bottom of this page.
For more information on the role, please contact us on HR@saintmichaelshospice.org or on 01423 200145 and we can arrange for you to have an informal discussion with a member of the team.
