The Graduate / Junior E&I Design Engineer will support the design and documentation of electrical and instrumentation systems across a range of complex industrial projects. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers who are recognised leaders in their field, the role offers structured exposure to engineering standards, regulatory compliance, and professional design practices within safety‑critical environments.
This is a development‑focused role, designed to build strong fundamentals in E&I design, life safety systems, and compliant engineering delivery. The successful candidate will contribute to the production of high‑quality engineering documentation while developing the technical rigour, attention to detail, and professional judgement required to work effectively in regulated industries.
Projects are typically delivered within life sciences, pharmaceutical, and high‑tech manufacturing environments, offering early‑career engineers valuable exposure to complex, well‑governed projects where quality, safety, and compliance are central to every stage of delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design Support
- Assist in the preparation of electrical and instrumentation design deliverables under the supervision of E&I Engineers, including: drawings, schematics, and layouts / cable schedules and equipment lists / I/O lists and instrument indexes
- Support the development of life‑safety system designs where applicable
- Learn to interpret client specifications, standards, and design criteria
- Apply engineering calculations and design principles in line with project requirements.
- Utilise project management software to provide regular and accurate updates on project activities, progress, and deliverables throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Participate in regular project and governance meetings to remain informed of current workload priorities, key actions, and project commitments, and to contribute updates as required.
Project & Technical Support
- Provide technical support to project teams during the design phase
- Assist with responding to technical queries and RFIs under guidance
- Support design reviews and coordination with other disciplines
- Gain exposure to FAT, SAT, commissioning, and handover activities from a design and documentation perspective
Documentation & Compliance
- Assist in the preparation and review of engineering documentation, including:
- Design reports, Commissioning documentation and test records, as‑built drawings and handover packs
- Learn and apply document control and design change procedures
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with Engineering standards, Internal quality procedures, and Health, safety, and compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree (Level 8 or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, E&I Engineering, or a related discipline, with a strong interest in engineering design within an industrial environment.
- Basic understanding of electrical and instrumentation principles
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Prior experience with CAD engineering design software a distinct advantage.
- The role requires good written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a positive willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- The role requires strong logical and analytical problem‑solving skills, together with a structured and methodical approach to work
- The successful candidate must be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and demonstrate an openness to learning ERP and project management software systems as part of their ongoing development.
