Head of Operations

The Head of Operations at Hanley Energy Electrical is responsible for the strategic leadership of all operational aspects of the business, encompassing electrical operations, safety, and project management. This role includes establishing and driving policies for enhanced performance, ensuring compliance and quality, and optimizing financial goals. The Head of Operations actively fosters a high-performing workforce, enforces company policies, and collaborates with global stakeholders to execute business activities effectively while overseeing cost control measures and workforce development.

 

Key areas / Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Direct aspects of the business operations, including Electrical operations, Safety, and Project /Program management.
  • Control of operational quality, development, health & safety, and compliance within assigned scope of the role.
  • Ability to prepare an annual resource planning and establish policy guidelines to drive the performance of the electrical engineering and operational functions of Hanley Energy Electrical.
  • Ensure electrical site operations develops effectively, in terms of material yields, labor, and overhead costs versus budget. Detailed analytics and reporting of labour utilisation on all projects.
  • Implement a Performance Tracking System, in conjunction with Financial controller, which includes the key performance indicators covering engineering, quality assurance, manpower levels and finance.
  • Develop and nurture a dynamic and competent workforce through a robust performance driven culture. 
  • Works to ensure that financial goals are met alongside operational budgets, ensuring monthly profitability and EBITDA targets are fulfilled.
  • Works with global role holders in areas such as procurement, Service and HR, to ensure that the business activities and tactical actions are executed effectively.
  • Lead and monitor cost control measures, ensuring  progress in realising saving opportunities.
  • Oversees employee management, working closely with the Safety Director on all customer sites.
  • Enforces all company policies, including safety, production, quality, sales, human resources, customer service and accounting policies.
  • Coach and develop employees to build high performing teams. Assigns stretch assignments to further train and enhance employee development.
  • Promotes cross training where possible, to optimize workforce, ensure functional coverage, reduce labor costs, and support succession planning.
  • Manage and maintain labor costs in accordance with budgets and strategic goals.
  • Oversees the hiring and engagement of union-based employees. Works with Human Resources to seek out ways to motivate and develop employees.

 

Requirements

  • Proven Leadership Experience: Candidates should have a strong track record of successfully leading and managing operational teams in a relevant industry.
  • Strategic Thinking: The ability to think strategically, develop long-term plans, and align operational activities with the company's overall goals.
  •  Compliance and Safety Expertise: A deep understanding of regulatory compliance and safety standards, particularly in the electrical sector.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong financial management skills to oversee budgets, control costs, and meet financial targets.
  • Resource Planning: Experience in resource planning, including workforce management and materials allocation for efficient operations.
  • Union Relations: Experience in managing and engaging union-based employees is important, along with the ability to seek out ways to motivate and develop unionized staff.
  • Performance Management: The ability to foster a performance-driven culture and develop a competent workforce.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience in collaborating with various departments and global counterparts to ensure effective execution of business activities.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for team leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and policy enforcement.
  • Educational Background: A bachelor's or advanced degree in a relevant field, such as engineering or business administration, can be a valuable asset.
