About the Role
As a Service & Commissioning Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering OBW’s high‑quality engineering services to customers across the Leinster region. You will work on mission‑critical gas detection systems, ensuring safe operation, regulatory compliance, and reliability in some of Ireland’s most advanced industrial environments.
This is a highly technical, hands‑on role ideal for someone with an Electrical / Instrumentation background, strong problem‑solving skills, and a desire to grow their career within a specialist engineering field.
You will work both independently and as part of a highly experienced and supportive engineering team, backed by continuous OEM training and development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
· Install, commission and configure fixed and portable gas detection systems, control panels, sensors, and associated equipment at client sites.
· Integrate systems with PLCs, BMS and other site control infrastructure.
· Carry out functional testing, loop-checking, calibration, and pre-handover verifications.
Servicing, Calibration & Technical Support
· Perform scheduled maintenance, calibration and equipment verification in line with OEM and regulatory requirements.
· Diagnose and resolve technical faults quickly to minimise downtime and maintain safety-critical performance.
· Provide clear technical advice, guidance and system training to end users and client teams.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
· Ensure all work is completed safely, professionally, and in full compliance with site-specific procedures, standards, and regulations.
· Produce accurate service reports, commissioning records, calibration certificates and technical documentation.
· Follow OBW’s Quality Management System, safety procedures, and escalation processes.
Customer & Team Collaboration
· Maintain strong relationships with client engineering, EHS, and facilities teams.
· Work closely with our Sales, Projects and Technical Support teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
· Represent OBW professionally as a trusted specialist partner.
Travel
· A small amount of short-duration international travel (<5%) may be required to support specialist project activities or training.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Craft or Third level qualification in Electrical, Electronic, or Electrical & Instrumentation or equivalent experience).
- Field service or commissioning experience (industrial, manufacturing, utility or high-tech environment preferred).
- Strong technical and diagnostic ability within Electrical, E&I or Instrumentation fields.
- Full clean driving licence and ability to work across the Leinster region.
- Excellent communication, customer service and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively and deliver consistently high-quality work.
Desirable
- Experience with gas detection systems, Honeywell equipment or similar instrumentation technologies.
- Experience in regulated or high‑tech environments such as pharma, semiconductor, utilities, data centres or industrial processing.
- Knowledge of ATEX environments, control systems, or system integration.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety and safe working practices.
