The Drinking Water Section is comprised of Water Treatment Operators, Water Technicians, Utility Workers and Meter readers. Each employee performs duties applicable to the treatment of potable water. With the enhancement and expansion of our system, top quality water is provided to our community today and in the future. Water Treatment Improvements have been made so that the water tastes better and is odor-free, avoids stains on elements, is plentiful for current and expected growth of the City, and maintained by experts.

Water Operator I performs a variety of skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the City's Water Treatment Plant, storage systems, pumping systems and drinking water distribution. The position is responsible for performing process tests, monitoring influent and effluent water parameters and adjusting plant treatment operations to maintain compliance with state and federal water quality standards. Duties include operate and assist in the maintenance of the City's water treatment facilities, storage reservoirs and pumping facilities in order to control the treatment, storage, and distribution of safe drinking water to the City's residents; check alarms, tank and reservoir water levels, pump operations and other information using a computer terminal; inspect chemical dispensing equipment for proper operation; check for proper dosage rates and adjust in accordance with appropriate procedures; troubleshoot computer telemetry systems; perform a variety of maintenance functions including housekeeping duties; maintain or assist in maintenance of motor operated control systems and program logic controllers; and utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed with special attention to operations involving hazardous materials.

High School degree or G.E.D. with a minimum of two (2) year of water treatment operation experience involving potable water treatment and distribution, with supplemental course work in biology, chemistry or a related field, or a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities. A valid Oregon class C driver's license and ability to meet the City of Woodburn's driving standards; Oregon Water Treatment Operator I certification; ability to pass the pre-employment background check and possess the following training/certifications or ability to obtain and maintain after employment: Forklift, flagger, first aid/CPR.
