Quality Engineer
The Company
Alpha Manufacturing, part of The HEX Group, is a privately-owned business fabricating sheet metal in the UK. Alpha designs and produces both sheet metal work components and assemblies. Established in 1989, the company now employs over 180 people. Utilising industry leading technology, Alpha Manufacturing have facilities to design, prototype and manufacture a diverse range of products all in their purpose-built sheet metal fabrication factory in the heart of Staffordshire.
Having experienced significant growth and success over the last few years, we are looking to strengthen our team with the recruitment of a Quality Engineer.
The Role
Reporting to the Quality Manager the successful individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day quality issues identified by the business ensuring prompt resolution by applying appropriate methodology ensuring investigation, containment, and corrective actions in line with defined quality standards. Facilitate the timely completion of the Internal Audit programme and maintenance of and continual improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) and associated documents. Work alongside the Quality Manager ensuring business readiness for scheduled external certification body and customer audits. Provide mentoring and leadership to apprentices whilst in the Quality Rotation.
Key Accountabilities;
· Act as primary point of contact between production, quality, and engineering · Manage customer rejects and queries and liaise directly with customer. Conduct thorough investigations using standard quality techniques and report through the business 8D system · Manage escalated supplier queries relating to non-conforming products · Manage and conduct calibration activities and schedules · Conduct PPAP activities and create relevant supporting documentation · Attend APQP meetings and action supporting documents required for new and revised products · Measurement activities, including use of 3D scanning equipment · Support the timely completion of the Internal audit schedule · Support in maintaining the accuracy of all QMS documentation · Support in all external certification body and customer audits · Audit and maintain the standard of Safety Culture (inspection) templates in line with business objectives · Consult with process owners to ensure all process documentation reflects current operating practices · Create supporting document to improve current and/or new products. These include SOP’s, Process Flows, FMEA’s, Packing Specs etc…

The Person
The ideal candidate would meet the following key criteria;
- Excellent IT skills
- Problem solving skills
- Be able to work alone or as part of a team
- Able to work well under pressure
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of ISO9001:2015
- Internal auditor training
- Experience working in the automotive industry
- Able to understand engineering drawings
- Understanding of GD&T tolerancing
- Understanding of QMS
- Use of measurement tooling
- Previous experience in the use of 3D measuring equipment (specifically Metrascan 3D) would be advantageous
