Infrastructure Business Development Lead

 

To build a position in the major civil engineering project market in the UK and beyond.

Responsible for driving sustainable growth by identifying, shaping, and securing new work across major infrastructure and civil engineering markets. The role focuses on early engagement, relationship development, and strategic positioning to convert pipeline opportunities into profitable, long‑term projects.

The role acts as the interface between clients, delivery teams, and commercial functions to ensure that customer needs are translated into well‑structured, competitive, and deliverable civil engineering solutions.

To start, maintain, develop and use senior level client relationships to secure early contractor involvement scopes, leading to execution scopes for projects such as (not limited to);

-          Tunnel boring Machine Transport & Installation (T&I)

-          Modularised Bridge T&I

-          Bridge launching using conventional methods (skidded launch / strand jacks etc) and unconventional methods (cable cranes / box slides)

-          Change the way civils is done – perhaps by modularising precast components off-site in muster port and transporting into projects by barge for near shore civil construction – the right candidate will be able to create value adding solutions using their experience.

-          Be a front runner in new / novel techniques for constructability of projects and use your technical experience and creativity to support clients.

To take full commercial responsibility for major infrastructure projects and through planning and forecasting help setup successful service delivery.

To be the main contact at Osprey for key customers in the market sector. This means keeping close to technical delivery, project delivery and operational delivery and supporting all these Osprey internal functions as an Integrator by getting the best out of the teams for our clients.

 

Responsibilities

·         Leadership – Own the Infrastructure / Major Civil Engineering market sector for Osprey and accountability for its commercial and delivery performance.

·         Client Relationships – Build and maintain trust-based relationships with key customers in the Civil Engineering sector. Build added-value solutions for clients which deliver on expectations. Ensure client care and project output is top priority. Engage early with clients to influence project scope, delivery models, and technical solutions. This will require face to face meetings at client sites / offices as well as Osprey offices to maintain long‑term relationships to secure repeat business and framework appointments

·         Tendering – Ensure that Osprey respond to all major civil engineering project tenders on time to high quality and ensure that tender responses are subsequently managed with the client.

·         Commercial Management – Management of the full commercial life cycle, from input opportunity into CRM to signature of contract. Develop a robust forward-looking pipeline aligned with strategic growth targets.

·         Contract Management – ensure that Osprey delivers the project as per the terms and conditions agreed to in the contract and that all variations are captured and appropriately billed.  Where possible, add milestone   payments and favourable payment terms.

·         Service Delivery – ensure that all projects are correctly handed over to Project Delivery, Technical Delivery and Operations Delivery teams. Be involved at all stages to ensure client expectations are maintained.

·         Internal relationships – Build and maintain cross functional internal relationships to ensure that we offer the client the full value of Osprey service delivery.

·         Marketing – Ensure our marketing is relevant and focussed to the areas that the business requires. Support the marketing function with content for delivery.

 

Requirementsfor a HSE Manager 

·         Bachelor's degree in engineering or similar discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Construction)

·         Health and safety certifications

·         8- 10 years' Experience in infrastructure-based project delivery

·         Experience with large-scale capital projects

·         Familiar with heavy lifting operations and movements of complex articles

·         Has moved and lifted major infrastructure previously using SPMT, temporary works and lifting methods.

·         Experience in identifying and securing new business opportunities.

·         Understanding of commercial trust relationships and importance of client outcomes – able to build and maintain these client relationships and the internal service delivery to support them.

·         Experience in translating technical infrastructure capabilities into commercial offerings

·         Detailed understanding of CDM Regulations and BS5975

·         Ability to lead and support multidisciplinary teams and able to communicate affectively at all levels

·         Strategic and data driven, with the ability to translate data into actions

·         Resilient and effective communicator. Able to build client confidence as subject matter expert.

·         Able to lead technical and operational discussions with client whilst maintaining Osprey’s commercial and risk position.

·         Able to generate new leads and service offerings, not limited to Osprey current fleet of equipment or capability.

·         Proactive. Not afraid to get stuck in where needed

·         Excellent communication skills and able to communicate across various platforms

·         Leadership – own the space and bring energy and passion/energy

·         Drive – Able to drive results and drive positive outcomes at all times.

·         Team player – works with the team for delivery synergy’s – understands the teams experience and ability and draws on this where required.
