Role Purpose

As the Plant Fitter, you will be a key member of the Osprey team and responsible for working across our fleet of assets, from Cranes & Installations, Jacking & Skidding equipment to SPMTs (Self-Propelled Modular Trailers) and general plant-based equipment at our main depot site in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. This role will report to the Yard & Maintenance Supervisor and working as part of a team of wider Crane/Rigger & SPMT operators, you will be responsible for ensuring repairs, maintaining the upkeep of our kit and troubleshooting concerns as well as providing solutions to fix problems in a fast-paced project-based environment.

Role Accountabilities

·       Industry Knowledge – following industry best practice, share training and learning with others, being aware of legislation and regulations applicable to all tasks conducted as part of this role. Ensure that SPMTs are operated in a manner in keeping with Osprey’s requirements and those of the manufacturer.  Ensure that pre-use checks are conducted, any defects are reported to your line manager and assist with basic maintenance as required.

·       Servicing Compliance – carry out servicing, inspections of machinery and equipment, diagnose specific fault issues and take action. Undertake all work strictly in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and recommendations.

·       Technical Troubleshooting– understand the principles of Osprey's fleet of equipment and its use – covering mechanical components, hydraulic pressure systems and electronics.  Be able to set up a trailer on multiple axles and file configurations.  Be able to carry out basic troubleshooting and check/escalate the appropriate action to broken or damaged company equipment.

·       Asset Record Keeping - ensure all service information is read, understood and filed. Submit and revise documentation based on activities conducted and spare parts required. Recognise and communicate trends and issues to Yard & Maintenance Supervisor.

·       Site Operational Relationships – develop and maintain effective working relationships with Osprey colleagues and support client conversations when required. Work with the client in mind, making sure that quality work standards are maintained consistently and that post work, the repair site is clean and left in a condition that is satisfactory.

  • Continuous Professional Development – willing to continuously develop knowledge and skills and share with junior/trainee members of the maintenance, Crane/Rigger & SPMT members of the team. Willing to work alongside a multidisciplined team of operators and learn new skills, including lifting and moving machinery from vessel projects.

Other Responsibilties

·       Work to manufacturers’ instructions at all times.

·       Adhere to road traffic regulations.

·       Ensure appropriate PPE is worn at all times.

·       Be conversant with the correct use of hydraulic pressures and valve systems for suspension.

·       Perform the correct use of manual handling.

·       Liaise with Site Manager/Project Manager on arrival at site.

·       Be able to resist pressure from other persons to carry out unsafe operations.

·       Be able to take action to avoid dangerous situations, including stopping operations.

·       Carry out training on specific models of crane, become familiar with rigging and maintenance procedures and be conversant with all crane documentation.

·       Continually seek to improve the way in which the role operates within the business to achieve its objectives.

 

·       As part of your role, you will be required to carry out the following activities:

-        General working at height

-        Working with hand and power tools

-        Working near/on water

-        Operating various types of plant equipment

-        Carrying out manual handling activities

Osprey shall ensure you have the necessary training to carry out the above tasks in a safe manner.

·       Ability to assist with other activities as required:

-        General slinger/signaller activities

-        General installations activities

-        General SPMT activities

-        Assist with load-in/load-out of equipment to transport

-    General activities which occur within the yard
