Relief Duty Manager – Ground Handling
Location: Guernsey Airport
We are seeking a motivated and organised Relief Duty Manager to support the effective operation of Ground Handling at Guernsey Airport. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment and enjoys leading teams to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality airline operations.
Working closely with the Station Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating daily ground operations, ensuring aircraft are turned around safely and efficiently while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational performance.
About the Role
As a Relief Duty Manager, you will assist in overseeing the day-to-day ground handling operation and ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, airport regulations, and airline procedures.
You will be responsible for coordinating teams, monitoring operational performance, and ensuring aircraft departures meet strict On-Time Performance (OTP) targets. The role also involves maintaining compliance with Health & Safety standards, airport security regulations, and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Department for Transport (DfT) directives.
You will lead by example on shift, motivating staff, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently, and supporting operational decision-making to keep the airport operation running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Station Manager in delivering a safe and efficient ground handling operation
- Ensure staff are correctly positioned on shift to meet arriving aircraft and dispatch departures
- Coordinate aircraft turnaround activities to meet company timelines and On-Time Performance targets
- Oversee ramp safety and ensure aircraft arrive, park, and depart safely from stand to pushback
- Ensure a Foreign Object Debris (FOD) check is completed prior to aircraft arrival where required
- Coordinate the timely delivery of ground services to aircraft as requested by crew or engineers
- Monitor operational performance data and report any challenges affecting shift operations
- Manage staffing requirements, including calling in standby staff when required
- Work with the Training Manager to identify refresher training needs and release staff for training
- Assist with disruption management and communicate aircraft status updates
- Liaise with airport management and service partners in the absence of the Station Manager
- Deliver presentations or reports to management regarding operational performance and challenges
- Ensure procedures and operational documentation are reviewed and followed
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 2 years’ experience managing a team in a fast-paced operational or customer service environment
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently at all levels
- Experience delivering presentations or operational briefings
- Strong leadership and motivational skills
- Ability to manage challenges quickly and effectively
- Proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours and operational demands
