Senior RD&D Engineer

Overview of the role

To undertake the design, development, and transition into production of new or modified products and processes in response to customer requirements in accordance with company procedures.

Responsibilities

         Act as a senior Engineering SME and provide expert advice to the Principal RD&D Chemist and Heads of Design

          Lead engineering design expertise for RF and EO Countermeasures and their integration into defence systems

          Line manage RD&D engineers when required

          Develop and maintain engineering competence within the RD&D department

         Manage assigned projects and deputise for the Principal RD&D Engineer as required

         Lead and promote safe working practices across RD&D and CCM

          Prepare design and development proposals, including plans, resources, and costs

         Represent the company with customers and suppliers at a senior level

          Lead or support FMEA activities

         Attend external tests, trials, meetings, and seminars as required

         Liaise with internal departments to support transition to volume manufacture

         Play a leading role in CCM New Product Process activities for Countermeasures development

         Maintain chemical and energetic materials analysis and testing within the RD&D Air CM team

         Maintain records of activities

 

Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

         Level 6 Honors Degree with substantial relevant experience - Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering

         Lived and worked in the UK for 5 years with the ability to gain SC Security Clearance

         Working as an Engineering SME at a senior level of ability

         Project Management Experience

         Design Review Experience

         Experience of Continuous improvement programs

         Detailed knowledge of Risk Assessments

         Experience of dealing with people issues

         Working within multi-functional teams

         Practical Engineering Skills and Good Workshop Practice

         Advanced 3D CAD Modelling experience

 

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

         Energetic materials Experience

         UK Explosive Regulations Knowledge

 

This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week; Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30.
