Position Description: Inventory Planner
Working as part of the Global Procurement & S&OP Team the inventory planner will effectively manage all global inventory items in-line with the S&OP planning process. The inventory planner will develop plans for maintaining inventory levels, including determining how much inventory should be kept on hand and anticipating potential shortages based on the S&OP plan and approach. Inventory planners are responsible for creating and maintaining plans for the inventory of a business, and ensuring physical and SAP housekeeping of inventory is accurate at all times.
Inventory Planner Role and Responsibilities:
Inventory planning & Scheduling:
- Developing plans for maintaining inventory levels, including determining how much inventory should be kept on hand and anticipating potential shortages based on the S&OP demand and supply plan and approach.
- Ensure that suppliers components are delivered and in-line with the production schedules and inventory levels.
- Work with Procurement and Production to ensure that SAP MRP’s scheduling is aligned with the production schedule.
SAP housekeeping:
- Ensure SAP housekeeping is up to date including Open PO’s, stock movements, goods inwards etc. Work with the Procurement, Production and Stores Teams to ensure that open PO’s are closed, WIP processed, Inter-company transactions actioned correctly and in a timely manner, and that BOM’s are accurate.
Forecasting:
- Analyse the Sales & Operational plan to create efficient inventory forecasts.
- Monitoring inventory levels to ensure that they remain within agreed parameters at all times including min/max global inventory levels.
- Coordinating through S&OP with the Procurement team, Stores team, Production and raise alerts regarding any potential risk to meet production schedules or satisfy customers orders.
General Duties:
- Developing procedures for global inventory management, including Stores stock of components, WIP and Finished Goods.
- Monitor slow moving stock, quarantine stock and stock at risk of obsolescence including seeking approval on how to handle damaged goods or expired items, and working with stores to action accordingly.
- Work with Stores, Finance and other departments to ensure stock counts are completed accurately and effectively across all locations. Ensure that SAP is in-line with the physical stock on-hand, and correctly set up including third party manufacturing locations, inter-depot and inter-company transfers.
- Recommending improvements to inventory management systems based on continuous improvement.
- Support the S&OP Planning Manager in the S&OP process including: Data Collection, KPI generation and coordination. Deputise for the S&OP manager from time to time.
Requirements
- 2+ years’ experience in an inventory planning or production planning role
- Excellent understanding of supply chain principles and procedures
- Strong Excel & IT skills
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence colleagues
- Previous experience in computer based MRP systems would be an advantage, in particular SAP.
- Sound organizational and communication skills.
