Bradfield College & St Andrew’s Berkshire are co-educational independent boarding and day schools set within 250 acres of stunning Berkshire countryside, combining historic buildings with modern academic, boarding, sports and performance facilities. The College and school operate seven days a week and remains active year-round, welcoming pupils, staff, families and guests for a range of purposes.
We are seeking a Specialist Cleaning Operative to join our wider housekeeping team. This role is different from a standard cleaning position and is ideal for someone who enjoys physical, varied and practical work, including both indoor and outdoor tasks and the use of specialist cleaning equipment.
The Role
Reporting to the Housekeeping Supervisor, the Specialist Cleaning Operative provides both planned and reactive cleaning support across the estate.
In addition to responding quickly to ad‑hoc cleaning needs, the role includes scheduled specialist cleaning activities, such as:
- Exterior and interior window cleaning
- Carpet and upholstery cleaning
- Deep cleaning project
- Large‑scale or one‑off cleaning tasks
This is an active role that involves manual handling, working outdoors at times, and operating equipment, with full training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out both scheduled and reactive cleaning tasks across the College estate
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents and urgent hygiene issues
- Undertake specialist cleaning activities, including window and carpet cleaning
- Operate cleaning machinery and equipment safely and confidently (training provided)
- Work to high cleanliness and hygiene standards in line with College procedures
- Follow COSHH, health & safety and safe manual handling practices at all times
- Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Report maintenance defects, hazards or safety concerns promptly
- Support deep‑cleaning programmes during holidays and planned shutdowns
The Ideal Candidate
This role would suit someone who enjoys hands‑on, practical work and is comfortable with physical tasks and a changing daily workload.
You will be:
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual work and equipment use
- Reliable, flexible and well‑organised
- Able to work independently and respond calmly to urgent tasks
- Safety‑conscious, with a strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
- Positive, approachable and professional in a school environment
Previous cleaning or facilities experience is helpful but not essential – full training is provided.
