The Role – Facilities Operative

Full-time, permanent | 37.5 hours per week

Reporting to the Head of Facilities, you will be responsible for maintaining our buildings, systems, and equipment to the highest standards. This is a hands-on role where your practical skills directly support the life of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance using our facilities management system

  • Diagnose faults, prioritise repairs, and complete works or liaise with contractors

  • Monitor and maintain water quality, water safety, and fire safety systems

  • Support the upkeep, repair, and servicing of tools and equipment

  • Supervise contractors to ensure work is completed safely and to standard

  • Deliver basic training to staff on equipment such as generators and heating systems

  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and organisational policies

  • Respond to out-of-hours emergencies when required (with additional pay)

  • Drive company vehicles as needed

Requirements

  • Strong practical skills in DIY, maintenance, or facilities management

  • Good knowledge of health & safety practices

  • Ability to work independently, organise your workload, and prioritise effectively

  • Confident using IT systems (e.g., Microsoft Office)

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Desirable: experience in areas such as plumbing, electrical, joinery, decorating, groundwork, or care/charity settings
