Associate RD&D Chemist

Overview of the role

To conduct chemistry tasks, explosive compatibility testing and explosive sensitiveness testing and to have some knowledge of Chemical and Energetics design issues related to both RF and EO Countermeasures and their integration to defence systems.

Responsibilities

·         Support and improve safe working practices across RD&D and CCM

·         Participate in assigned project teams

·         Maintain and develop chemistry capability within RD&D

·         Apply practical chemistry knowledge

·         Inspect incoming chemical goods and maintain raw material and store records

·         Conduct, record, and interpret explosive compatibility and sensitivity tests

·         Support explosive and non-explosive formulation R&D

·         Represent the company with customers and suppliers as required

·         Travel to attend tests, trials, meetings, and seminars

·         Contribute to CCM New Product Process activities for countermeasures

·         Propose and help implement process and product improvements

·         Maintain accurate activity logs

 

Essential Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

·         HNC BTEC with appropriate experience Level 6 Honors Degree (but with no or limited industry experience)

·         Lived and worked in the UK for 5 years and the ability to gain SC Security Clearance

·         Experience of working in a chemistry laboratory conducting chemical analysis/ testing and/or research and development

·         Practical Chemistry Skills

 

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and/or Experience

·         Energetic materials Experience

·         Knowledge of Risk Assessments

·         Working within multi-functional teams

·         Knowledge of Pyrotechnic, Propellant and Explosive Engineering

 

This role will be worked over a 4.5 day week; Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 16:45 and Friday 08:00 – 12:30.
