Marine Services General Manager

We bring together the very best multi-disciplinary engineering and delivery teams to accelerate projects, enhance safety, and work side by side with clients to solve the most complex construction challenges.   We are looking for a dynamic and results-driven Marine Service General Manager to lead our marine operations and ensure excellence across all aspects of service delivery. This role will oversee day-to-day marine services, manage our vessel fleet, and drive strategic growth, while supporting our teams and clients with professionalism and innovation.

 

Responsibilities for a Marines Service General Manager  

  • Operational Management – Oversee daily marine services including scheduling, maintenance, and port operations, ensuring compliance with international and local laws, safety standards, and regulations. 
  • Team Leadership – Support and guide the port services team across both liner services and UK-wide projects. 
  • Client & Stakeholder Management – Handle escalations from the port services team, ensuring issues are resolved effectively and relationships are maintained. 
  • Strategic Development – Identify opportunities for growth and expansion of the business. 
  • Financial & Resource Management – Prepare budgets, monitor expenditure, and optimise resource allocation. 
  • Reporting – Provide regular feedback to the Senior Leadership Team on port activities and highlight areas for improvement. 
  • Fleet Management – Actively manage Osprey’s barge fleet and oversee the introduction of new vessels. 

 

 

Requirements for a Marines Service General Manager 

  • Marine degree and MICS-qualified Shipbroker. 
  • Minimum 15 years in commercial shipping, with an operations background and management responsibility. 
  • Proven experience managing teams, with the ability to lead, mentor, and train effectively. 
    Experience in Project cargo chartering (barges, tugs, HLVs). 
  • Vessel operations and established knowledge of project shipping owners and fleets. 
  • Expereince with BIMCO charter parties and port operations. 
  • Basic lashing and securing of project cargos. 
  • Multi-mode logistics – ability to design and deliver integrated logistics packages. 
  • Ability to negotiate and problem solve  
  • IT proficiency and reporting capability to the wider team  
  • Financial and business acumen  
  • Proactive and not afraid to get stuck in where needed
