About us

Our family of services - Herriot Hospice Homecare, Just ‘B’ and Saint Michael’s Hospice - provide vital support to people when they need it most. Our vision is of a community where everyone gets the care they need, want and deserve, and you can help make that a reality.

We are an independent charity powered by local communities. Every day, we help to improve quality of life for people living with terminal illness, bereavement and mental health concerns, because our belief is that no one should suffer. Our incredible teams work together to make this happen.

Your role as an Operational Shift Coordinator

At the heart of our patient-centred approach is a simple belief that every moment counts. Our mission is to deliver exceptional, personalised care that brings comfort, dignity, and support to our patients and those who love them. As an Operational Shift Coordinator, you will guide and inspire a team, contribute to service development, and provide high-quality, person-centred care at one of life’s most important stages.

This Operational Shift Coordinator role is community based, throughout Harrogate and Hambleton and Richmond. You will be required to have access to your own vehicle and have a current driving license.

In this role, you will:

Provide on-shift leadership, management and co-ordination of our Home HCA’s ensuring the delivery of outstanding care to our patients and their families.

This role combines clinical coordination with operational responsibly, including weekend leadership, participation in a 24/7 rota and involvement in the organisation’s escalation/on-call system.

You will support service development, promote clinical excellence, and work collaboratively across the community.

About you:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Healthcare Assistant who is not only clinically and operationally skilled but also deeply compassionate, someone who sees hospice care as a vocation, not just a role.

We’re looking for:

Significant experience in palliative care, oncology, or an acute clinical setting.

Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing clinical teams.

Confidence and emotional resilience in handling complex or sensitive situations.

Experience delivering individualised care in dynamic, needs-led environments such as ward or complex community settings.

Strong communication skills and a calm, empathetic approach to complex care situations

At our hospice, we understand that this work is deeply personal. That’s why we place just as much care into supporting our staff as we do our patients – creating a workplace where people feel valued, listened to and able to grow. If you're ready to bring comfort, dignity, and peace to those at the end of life, we would love to hear from you.

How we look after you

We put people first in all that we do, which includes our own team
